The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, has officially received a public petition from officials of the Mau Mau War Veterans Association.

In their Petition, the war veterans are advocating for the recognition of all freedom fighters and national liberation heroes and heroines.

Led by Hon. (Dr) Gitu Kahengeri, a distinguished Mau Mau freedom fighter, the veterans are urging the House to facilitate their engagement with the British government to secure full reparations.

During the session with the Clerk, Dr. Kahengeri, also a former Juja MP, revealed that representatives of the veterans had a meeting with His Majesty King Charles III during his recent visit.

Dr. Kahengeri noted that the King acknowledged the commission of atrocities against Kenyans.

“As popularly elected representatives of the Kenyan people, we pray that you engage the British Government on our behalf in a compensation dialogue,” emphasized Shujaa Kahengeri.

The Clerk expressed gratitude in his remarks, acknowledging the veterans for seeking the intervention of the House.

He assured the petitioners that the Petition will be processed for tabling and subsequent consideration by the Public Petitions Committee.
