MD Railways Fails to Appear Before the Lands Committee For the Second Time
The National Assembly committee on Lands was forced to postpone it’s meeting after the Managing Director Kenya Railways failed to turn up.
The Managing Director Kenya Railways Cooperations (KRC) Mr . Philip J. Mainga has for the second time to appear before a committee scheduled on 15th June 2023.
According to the committee Chair Gershom Otachi ,this was the second time Mr Mainga has failed to appear before the committee which he was notified through a letter on 8th June and he also replied late on 14th this month.
Mr Mainga through a letter to the committee said he could not appear before the committee because of the reading of the badget that was set for 15th June 2023.
The above reason could not be accepted by the committee citing that they were all aware of the reading of the badget but found the meeting important.
“We have had a discussion and we feel that he should be summoned and that is what we are going to do,we express our displeasure and we have taken it in a more serious note, “Said chairman Otachi.
The Committee also invited the National Land Commission (NLC) who appeared for the meeting for questioning.
Led by Chief Executive Officer National Land Commission Miss Kabale Tache,The commission said it endevours to execute its mandate as per the law.
“The Commission has always compensated PAPs whose funds have been received from acquiring entities within the shortest period, save for outstanding legal and administrative challenges that makes the payment not payable immediately, such as Disputes on the properties,Land succession cases,Ongoing court cases and Incomplete/unavailable documentation relating to the parcels and/or persons,”Said Miss Tache.
The meeting was however postponed by the chair citing the payment information given by the NLC could not match to that of KRC hence the Managing Director had to be there to defend himself.
