It is impossible for Harambee Stars Captain Engineer Michael Olunga to join Any English Club Olunga moving to Everton or any other English Premier League might remain a dream this season following the new implementation changes of rules by the English Football Association of signing overseas players.
The new rules termed the Government Body Endorsement (GBE), is a system that bases on points put in place to determine players who qualify to play in the United Kingdom.
According to the Point System, a player needs 15 points to get an auto pass to play in the UK, players with 10 to 14 points can appeal the decision to the Exceptions Panel while those with less than 10 points are automatically ineligible.
Categories considered to award the points include international appearances, domestic minutes, continental minutes, league quality of the current club, continental progression of the last club, and the final league position of the last club. The total number of points a player can get is 65.
The Engineer has a tally of 7 points meaning he’s automatically ineligible to play in England.
Kenya’s recent ban by FIFA saw the country miss out on the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and this restrained Olunga’s points under the international minute’s category
Olunga who plays for Al Duhail finished on top of the scoring charts with 24 goals this season.
The international player was awarded the Mansour Muftah award in Qatar, an award given to the player with the highest number of goals in a season.
This is Olunga’s second golden boot award abroad after winning his first title at Japanese outlift Kashiwa Reysol.
Olunga also finished as the second valued player after Al Sadd’s Akram Afif who scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists helping his team to the league title.
