Moi University doctor-lecturers Give 14 Days Strike Notice
Moi University doctor-lecturers are set to go on strike.
According to Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) Secretary-General Dr. Davji Bhimji Atella they have already issued a 14-day strike notice
that expires in November 28, 2021.
This will paralyze learning in the institution which has recently been faced with mis-management leading to its staff going on strike.
“We have already issued a 14 days strike to Moi University Management and it will expire on November 28, 2021, once it expires we will paralyze everything in the institution,” Dr Atella said.
The doctor-lecturers are demanding payment of their enhanced allowances and salaries that dates back to two years ago.
The KMPDU boss further expressed concerns over an acute shortage of doctor
lecturers at the Moi University School of Medicine.
“There is a need for more doctors and lecturers to be employed for the
university to continue having doctors with required quality
graduating. We currently need between 50 and 100 new doctor
lecturers at the institution.,” added the KMPDU boss.
According to the KMPDU officials, each of the Moi University
doctor-lecturers is owed over Ksh1.5 million in unpaid salaries and
allowances that cumulatively is about Ksh200 million.
“Moi University lecturers have been blacklisted by various loan
agencies because their deduction on the pay slips is not remitted as
required by the university,” lamented Dr. Attela.
Should the doctor-lecturers make good their strike plans beginning
November 28, 2021, doctor students currently doing postgraduate and
the undergraduates will be affected.
