Moi University Signs Historic Return-to-Work Agreement
In a momentous development for Moi University, the institution today marked a significant milestone with the signing of the Return-to-Work Formula between the university administration and the staff unions, UASU (University Academic Staff Union) and KUSU (Kenya University Staff Union). This agreement signals the restoration of normalcy at the university, ending a crisis that had halted both academic and administrative activities.
In his address at the event, Kesses Member of Parliament CPA Julius Rutto expressed deep gratitude to His Excellency, President William Samoei Ruto, whose leadership played a crucial role in resolving the deadlock that had paralyzed operations at Moi University. “Today’s agreement is a testament to President Ruto’s commitment to resolving the challenges in the higher education sector,” Rutto said. “His visionary leadership and unwavering support have been key in ensuring that learning and administrative activities resume seamlessly.”
The event, which was attended by prominent education stakeholders, also saw the presence of Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, PS for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, and union leaders led by UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga. These leaders were praised for their collaborative efforts in bringing about the resolution.
“I want to extend my gratitude to all the parties involved in this dialogue,” said Rutto. “This is a clear example of what can be achieved when the government, educational institutions, and unions work together for the betterment of our students and the future of this great nation.”
The Return-to-Work Formula provides a framework that aims to resolve the issues that had led to the crisis at the university, with a focus on fostering long-term peace, improving working conditions for staff, and ensuring that students receive the high-quality education they deserve.
As the university moves forward, Rutto expressed hope that this resolution would not only bring harmony but also rekindle a shared commitment to restoring Moi University’s reputation as a leading center of academic excellence. “Our universities are the pillars upon which our future is built,” Rutto emphasized. “It is essential that we all work together to ensure that institutions like Moi University continue to shape the future leaders and innovators of our nation.”
The signing of the agreement is a significant step towards stabilizing Moi University, and it sets the stage for a renewed focus on academic and institutional development. As the university community begins a new chapter, stakeholders remain optimistic about the positive changes this resolution will bring for both staff and students alike.
