Moi University VC Grilled by EACC Over Alleged Sh2.2 Billion Embezzlement
The Vice Chancellor of Moi University, Professor Isaac Kosgey, has been grilled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of embezzling Sh2.2 billion from the institution.
Professor Kosgey underwent an intense 12-hour interrogation by EACC officers, aimed at shedding light on financial irregularities tied to several ongoing projects at the university. Speaking to the media after the grilling, Prof. Kosgey described the interaction as “cordial” and emphasized that it was not his first time engaging with the commission.
“On this matter, the EACC invited me, and I came to clarify the details of the projects currently underway at the university. We have cleared up some issues, and I am grateful to the commission for providing me with the opportunity to clarify these matters,” Prof. Kosgey said.
The investigation stems from concerns raised over the alleged mismanagement of funds meant for university development projects. EACC has been probing several financial transactions and contracts at Moi University, which reportedly involved the large sum of Sh2.2 billion.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor reiterated his commitment to transparency and cooperation with the authorities, stating that the university was fully committed to ensuring that all financial operations are above board.
The EACC has yet to make any official statement regarding the outcome of the investigation, but the grilling marks a significant step in the ongoing probe into the university’s financial management. The public awaits further developments as the commission continues its scrutiny of the matter.
Prof. Kosgey, who has served as the VC of Moi University for several years, remains a key figure in the institution’s leadership as the investigation progresses.
