The County Government of Uasin Gishu celebrated a significant achievement on Friday with the second recovery graduation ceremony at the Moiben Rehabilitation Centre, marking the successful rehabilitation of 12 individuals from alcohol addiction.

This event was part of a three-month free sponsorship program initiated by Governor H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii as part of the Nguzo Kumi initiative, aimed at combating alcohol consumption in the region. The ceremony highlighted the transformative journeys of the graduates, who received not only alcohol counseling but also essential business entrepreneurship skills.

Health Services County Executive Committee Member Dr. Abraham Serem commended the graduates for their determination and resilience. He emphasized that the program reflects the county’s commitment to uplifting individuals and communities in need. “Moiben has been selected as a flagship rehabilitation centre, with plans to establish similar facilities in each sub-county,” Dr. Serem announced, ensuring that support is accessible to more individuals across Uasin Gishu.

The Moiben Rehabilitation Centre, a fully registered facility, has welcomed individuals from diverse backgrounds, including youth and residents engaged in various professions. Dr. Serem noted the centre’s success as a testament to the county’s dedication to addressing alcohol addiction.

County Assembly Health Committee Chair Hon. Rebecca Magut praised the graduates as a beacon of hope for others facing similar challenges. “We will support the budget that benefits the younger generation through such programs,” she stated, urging the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board to enhance assessments to accommodate all sub-counties.

Hon. Magut also called on parents to support their children seeking rehabilitation, reinforcing the community’s role in fostering recovery. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Chief Officers Dr. Joyce Sang and Dr. Paul Wangwe, as well as local MCAs.

The graduation not only celebrated individual success but also underscored the community’s collective commitment to creating a sober environment in Uasin Gishu County.
