More suspects linked to Eldoret unrest charged in court

A total of113 more suspects linked to unrest that was witnessed in Eldoret town last week were on Wednesday arraigned before an Eldoret court.

They faced several charges including obstructing county enforcement officers from getting rid of unlicensed traders, causing injuries, destruction of property and looting shops.

The prosecution team told the court that the said crimes were committed on November 17, 2022, in Eldoret town.

Appearing before the Eldoret Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan, a total of 87 accused persons pleaded guilty to all the charges and they were sentenced to three months imprisonment.

A further 25 suspects denied the charges leveled against them and were remanded till December 5, 2022 when their case shall be mentioned for their bail terms

The court also noted that one suspect was not fit to stand trial and it therefore ordered that he be taken for psychiatric assessment before he takes plea.
