MP Didmus Barasa Condemns Violence at Funeral, Accuses Gachagua of Stage-Managing Incident
Kimilili Member of Parliament, Hon. Didmus Barasa, has strongly condemned the violent incident that occurred at a funeral today, calling it “a disgraceful act that undermines the sanctity of such solemn occasions.”
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, Barasa expressed his dismay, emphasizing that funerals are times for reflection, respect, and unity, not for violence or confrontation. “I strongly condemn any form of violence, especially during funerals, which should be moments of respect and unity. It is utterly disheartening to witness such behavior,” Barasa said.
However, Barasa went on to suggest that the incident, which involved former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, appeared to have been orchestrated. “The incident today looks like a stage-managed event designed to gain public sympathy,” he alleged. “It is unfortunate that some individuals will go to such lengths, using funerals as a platform for political maneuvering.”
Referring to Gachagua’s tenure in office, Barasa pointed out the former deputy president’s divisive use of tribal rhetoric. “During his time in office, Gachagua was frequently criticized for fueling division and not promoting national cohesion,” said Barasa. “As a former leader, he should strive to promote unity and reconciliation, ensuring his actions and words reflect the responsibility of someone who once held high office.”
Barasa further called on Gachagua to set an example in fostering national unity. “Rather than engaging in tactics that risk further polarizing the nation, Gachagua should be focused on healing the wounds and building a cohesive Kenya for all,” he urged.
The incident, which disrupted a funeral gathering, has sparked heated reactions across the country, with many calling for those involved to be held accountable. As the dust settles, it remains to be seen how the authorities and political leaders will respond to the growing concerns over the use of funerals for political gain.
