In a bid to bolster the growth and sustainability of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), the Micro Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) has embarked on a strategic partnership with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ). The collaboration aims to enhance the capacity of MSEs and empower youth startups across selected counties in Kenya.

Led by MSEA’s Managing Director & CEO, Henry Rithaa, alongside key members of the management team including Caroline Kioko, Ag. Director Business Development, Marketing and Trade, and Yatich Kipkorir, Deputy Director Enterprise Development, the discussions with the GIZ team focused on identifying potential areas of partnership.

A pivotal aspect of the collaboration is the implementation of the SME Loop, a comprehensive capacity-building program designed to span six months. The program encompasses structured training and coaching sessions tailored to equip youth startups with essential skills and knowledge in business dynamics, fostering sustainability and growth.

Highlighting the significance of capacity-building among youth entrepreneurs, CEO Henry Rithaa emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in mindset to navigate the complexities of startup ventures effectively.

Furthermore, the partnership extends to capacity-building initiatives for MSEA staff, aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to support the burgeoning MSE sector effectively. Committing to the partnership, MSEA assured GIZ of unwavering support in fostering MSE growth through various interventions, including the NYOTA program.

Under the purview of the collaboration, projects such as the provision of grants amounting to Ksh 50,000 for startups and the KJET project targeting MSEs value chains in specific counties align with government priority areas. Additionally, the GIZ projects seek to facilitate global market access for MSEs products, facilitate financial linkages, and implement environmental sustainability interventions, among other initiatives.

With the commencement of these projects, stakeholders anticipate a transformative impact on MSEs, positioning them for sustainable growth and competitiveness in both local and global markets. The collaboration between MSEA and GIZ underscores a shared commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and driving economic development in Kenya.
