Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) College of Medicine (CoM) celebrated its 13th graduation ceremony today, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to producing skilled healthcare professionals. A total of 323 students were awarded diplomas and degrees in various specialized fields, including Clinical Medicine and Nursing.

The ceremony, which took place at the MTRH campus, was attended by key dignitaries, with the Chief Guest being Dr. Julia Songok, Dean of Moi University School of Medicine. Dr. Songok highlighted the vital role that medical training institutions like MTRH CoM play in achieving Kenya’s primary healthcare goals. She urged the new graduates to uphold the highest professional standards and ethics as they begin their careers in healthcare, whether locally or internationally.

Mr. Caleb Koech, the Director of MTRH CoM, took the opportunity to reflect on the college’s legacy, noting that since its inception, over 4,600 specialists have graduated and are currently serving across the world. He emphasized the continued growth and success of the institution, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in medical training.

MTRH CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa also addressed the graduates, congratulating them for their dedication and hard work. He encouraged them to remain diligent, embrace challenges, and uphold religious values in their service to humanity. “As you step into the workforce, remember the responsibility you carry as healthcare professionals. Stay true to your calling, and always strive to be compassionate and ethical in your practice,” Dr. Kirwa said.

Dr. Kirwa further stressed the importance of promoting a healthy work environment, advising the graduates to avoid workplace inhibitors such as alcoholism. He also urged the public to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) as part of the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative, Taifa Care, with MTRH strategically positioned to support registrations in the region.

The event was a testament to the growing impact of MTRH College of Medicine, which continues to equip healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to the well-being of Kenyans and the global community. The Class of 2024 joins a distinguished group of alumni, poised to make significant contributions in the medical field.
