MTRH Commemorates World Sight Day
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) today joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Sight Day, 2024 at Memorial Grounds.
World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October, is a global event meant to draw attention to blindness and vision impairment, the 2024 theme is : “Love your Eyes” with a special focus on child eye health.
The event was marked by a walk through Eldoret City which was flagged off by the CEO, Dr. Philip Kirwa. The CEO encouraged all to love their eyes and protect children. “Your eyes are the window to the world,” he added.
Dr. Kirwa also urged the public to gift needy patients through cornea donation when their time on earth comes to an end.
The team sensitized all to love their eyes; go for regular eye checkups to prevent needless loss of sight.
Parents and caregivers were encouraged to talk to their children on prevention of eye injuries occasioned by playing particularly with sharp objects.
The Eye Unit offered free screening, and individuals requiring additional care were referred to the Ophthalmology Department.
Others in attendance were HMT members who included Dr. Owen Menach, Senior Director, Clinical Services, Dr. Ernest Ollando, Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Staff.

the Ministry of Health, Operation Eyesight Universal, Fred Hollows Foundation, Knowledge Spring Training Institute, Essilor Kenya, Alice Pharmaceuticals, KMTC, COECSA amongst others.
