Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed strong support for Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga’s candidacy for the position of African Union Commission Chairman. Murkomen, who joined Odinga in the Central African Republic (CAR) yesterday, was part of the delegation that campaigned for the renowned African statesman in a crucial meeting with President Faustin-Archange Touadéra in Bangui.

Murkomen highlighted Odinga’s international stature and extensive public service record as key attributes that make him the ideal candidate to lead the African Union Commission. In a statement following the meeting, Murkomen emphasized that Africa must re-imagine Pan-Africanism to address contemporary challenges such as slow economic growth, under-developed infrastructure, climate change, and the shifting geo-political landscape.

“In the face of rising instability and the urgent need for development, there is no better candidate than Raila Odinga to lead the African Union Commission,” Murkomen said. “His commitment to African integration, coupled with his recent tenure as the African Union’s High Representative on Infrastructure Development, positions him as the leader Africa needs in the 21st century.”

Odinga’s vision for Pan-Africanism in the modern era, Murkomen argued, aligns with Africa’s need for a collective effort to tackle its most pressing challenges. His leadership, experience, and diplomatic acumen make him the ideal choice to steer the African Union towards a more prosperous and unified future.

The meeting in Bangui is part of a broader campaign by Odinga to secure the chairmanship of the African Union Commission, a position that plays a pivotal role in shaping the continent’s future. Murkomen’s endorsement follows a series of high-level meetings across the continent, where Odinga’s credentials and vision for African unity have been well-received.

As the African Union looks ahead to the future, the call for fresh leadership to guide the continent through an era of rapid change has never been more urgent. According to Murkomen, Raila Odinga’s leadership promises a strong, unified, and prosperous Africa capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
