Muslim Cleric Urges the Government to Reduce The Cost of Production
North Rift Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini now wants the Ministry of Agriculture to reduce the cost of production for maize farmers.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town Bini said the cost of production is high compared to yields farmers.
“As religious leaders from the North rift region we are not happy with the way the government is handling Famers yet they struggle a lot to ensure that the Country is food secure, we want the government to reduce their cost of production for them to reap from their hard-earned sweat,” said the North Rift Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya chairman.
He wondered why the cabinet secretary for Agriculture Peter Munya and the Chairman Agriculture Committee in the National Assembly are mum yet farmers are suffering.
“Its saddening to see the price of 50kg of maize is going at Sh 1300 yet the price of fertilizer is 5000, they should look into the matter so that the farmer cannot suffer by ensuring that they reduce the cost of production,” Bini added.
He says the cost of production for one acre is over 35000 yet farmers cannot produce maize worth 35,000 how will a farmer benefit.
“We urge the Ministry to look at ways to reduce the cost of production if possible the cost of production of farm inputs and petrol for farmers to reap from their sweat failure to which farmers will abandon maize farming,” he added.
