Muslim Clerics Condemn Interior CS For Politicising Muslim Holidays

Northrift Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini has hit at the interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi for politicising   Muslim holidays.

Bini said that it’s sad that Matiangi announces holidays without consulting them.

“As Muslims from the Northrift region were are not happy the way the CS announces Muslims public holidays, it’s sad thta her does it just fine make some people happy, this is uncalled foramf only meant to divide Kenyans,”  Bini said while speaking to the press.

This comes after Interior CS Fred Matiangi declared July 20 as a public holiday to celebrate Idd-Ul-Adha which according to them he uncalled for and was supposed to be celebrated on. Wednesday.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (2) , as read with section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares that Tuesday, 20th July, 2021 shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-Ul-Adha, 2021,” he said in a gazette notice on Friday.

Bini accused Matiangi for politicising Muslim holidays.

“This is the second term that he had made the mistake this is not good since it will divide Muslims, Matiangi should stop playing politics with Muslim issues but instead should consult us before making any announcement of the same ,” Bini added.

Mudrik Karama chairman Supkem Uasin Gishu called on Matiangi to follow the due process which involves consulting Muslim clerics.

“He should consult Muslim scholars before announcing any Muslim holiday since this will divide Muslims regarding the days they are supposed to celebrate,” he said
