National chess championships held in Moi girls Eldoret
Over 100 hundred schools and 1700 hundred students met at Moi girls high school in Eldoret to square it out for the national chess championship.
The event that kicked off yesterday and ends tomorrow will provide a chance for the winners to represent the country at the African championships to be held later come December in Liberia.
“We are here today for the Africa schools’ individual chess championship qualifiers that are supposed to select the national team for juniors that are going to represent the country in Liberia in December.” Bolo Ronald.
The winners are set to bag awards other than getting recognition for being the national champs ranging to various sponsorships by chess Kenya in their various categories.
“The rewards include being crowned a national champ in the category you belong to. By this, you get to represent the country in other events not just the coming event in Liberia. Then there are trophies and other invitational competitions that you get to attend.
With chess being part of the new curriculum CBC, more and more kids have been encouraged to take part in this sport that has proved to have many benefits in life.
