The National Council of Churches ( NCCK) Northrift Region has called upon community stakeholders and government to keep steering peace building and not just wait until election times.

Speaking at a meeting convened in Eldoret to discuss peace scenerios, the Uasin Gishu County NCCK chairman Rev. Solomon Chelal said it is important to deal with any emerging issues that may cause conflict by engaging youth, women and men as peace actors.

“There are small underlying issues that crop up and bring disunity especially political divisions which needs to be handled early and not only during the electioneering period,” said Chelal.

The Uasin Gishu County NCCK Women Representative Jane Wangusi added that women are on the forefront to foster peace and cohesion through women groups which bring together all tribes.

“For peace do be there we must include women since they are in a better position to spread the peace gospel not only during elections but also before elections,” she said.
