NCfECD MST Develops Action Plan to Improve Child Welfare in Busia

Busia County has been on record when it comes to households poverty levels, negligence, stunted growth, malnutrition, Child trafficking, rape, incest, sodomy cases among other vices with negative impact to a child. To ensure that a child in Busia County is not only surviving but thriving and develop to their full potential, concerted efforts from different partners and stakeholders within Lake Region Economic Bloc(LREB) converged in town for a two day workshop to develop action plan and implementation strategy of a strengthened Nurturing Care for Early Childhood Development (NCfECD).

In a joint deliberation, the Multi-Sectorial Technical team basing on terms of reference, adopted their main guiding goal as “To facilitate an enabling environment towards transition and institutionalize NCfECD within County Structures”.

They also agreed on four basic operational activities to run within the first quarter of the year which will act as a base line. They include the following;
Identification and training MST on existing policies and available framework for nurturing care,Information dissemination and sensitization through different media handles i.e talkshows, fact sheets, posters e.t.c

Benchmarking in NCfECD pioneer County (Siaya) to share success stories and adopt best practices,MST team to pay a visit to Bunyala Sub-County where Child Fund Organization is already implementing Nurturing Care program to learn and try to relay the same in other sub counties within Busia County.

The workshop was funded by child Welfare support partner, ChildFund and Kisumu Medical & Education Trust (KMET).
Present was; LREB secretariat, Busia County Director for Administration and MST chairperson, Robert Muganda, representation from National Government and County Government departmental Directors.
