On this year’s Mazingira Day, Mamo B. Mamo, the Director General of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), has called on all Kenyans to actively engage in environmental conservation. Recognized as Person of the Year for his dedication to ecological protection, Mamo emphasized the urgent need to combat harmful practices threatening Kenya’s biodiversity.

In a passionate address, Mamo encouraged every Kenyan to plant and nurture at least ten trees, aligning with the significance of the date, October 10. “We must all take responsibility for our environment,” he said. “Each tree planted is a step towards healing our planet.”

Mamo’s appeal comes amid growing global concerns about climate change, which has transitioned from a theoretical issue to a pressing reality. He highlighted alarming trends, including rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and the devastating flash floods that have recently affected many communities.

“The impact of climate change is undeniable and has far-reaching consequences for our society and future generations,” Mamo warned. He urged Kenyans to adopt sustainable practices and to view environmental stewardship as a shared responsibility.

As Mazingira Day serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting our natural resources, Mamo’s message resonates with urgency, calling for collective action in safeguarding Kenya’s environment against the escalating threats posed by climate change.
