NEMA Takes Action on Raw Sewage Discharge in Ruaka

In response to a public complaint regarding the discharge of raw sewage from residential apartments in Ruaka, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), under the leadership of Director General Mamo B. Mamo, has swiftly acted to address the environmental concern.

NEMA inspectors, accompanied by law enforcement officers, visited the affected area today to assess the situation. Upon inspection, the team identified that the raw sewage discharge from several upstream residential apartments was the main contributor to the pollution, flowing downstream and creating a serious environmental hazard.

The authorities noted that many of the apartments in the area are not yet connected to the newly constructed sewer line, which has exacerbated the problem. In response, NEMA has issued orders for several of these apartments to immediately connect to the sewer system to prevent further contamination and mitigate the public health risks posed by untreated sewage.

NEMA has urged all property owners and developers in the region to comply with the environmental regulations and connect to the sewer line as part of the ongoing efforts to ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for residents of Ruaka.
