New Poultry Farming Initiative Launched to Empower Women in Nandi South
In a significant boost for local economic development and women’s empowerment, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Susan Auma Mangeni, launched a new chicken farming income-generating project on Monday.
The initiative, which targets 20 women’s groups across Aldai constituency, is part of a broader effort to foster sustainable agricultural practices and economic independence in the region.
The program, financed through the Uwezo Fund, aims to provide a solid foundation for poultry farming by supplying participants with chicks and start-up feed. This support is intended to help these women kickstart their ventures, enhancing their economic prospects and promoting sustainable farming techniques.
During the launch event, Mangeni emphasized the program’s role in not only supporting individual women but also in bolstering the broader community. “This initiative represents a critical step towards uplifting our community. By empowering women and providing them with the tools needed for success, we are promoting economic growth and advancing sustainable agricultural practices,” she stated.
The chicken farming project is expected to generate substantial income for the women involved, contributing to their financial independence and supporting local economic development. The initiative also underscores a commitment to promoting sustainable practices within the agricultural sector, aligning with broader goals of economic resilience and community development.
As the project takes flight, it is anticipated to serve as a model for similar initiatives aimed at empowering women and fostering economic growth in rural areas.
