The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee has concluded its inspection tours of ICT Hubs across constituencies in the Central and Upper Eastern Regions. Led by Committee Chairperson, Hon. Musa Sirma, and Vice-Chair Hon. Tandaza Sawa, the delegations visited various hubs to assess their progress and impact on local communities.

In the Upper Eastern region, the delegation inspected hubs in Manyatta, North-Imenti, Tharaka, and Maara constituencies. These hubs, located in vocational training colleges and chief’s camps, aim to empower youth and enhance digital literacy. Meanwhile, in Central Kenya, hubs in Gatundu South, Maragua, Kieni, and Kirinyaga-Central constituencies were scrutinized for their functionality and potential.

During the visits, MPs engaged with beneficiaries to understand the effectiveness of the program and identify areas for improvement. The importance of completing these projects swiftly was emphasized, as they are crucial for job creation and facilitating the country’s digital transformation.

Hon. Sirma highlighted the significance of the ICT Hub project, citing recent amendments to the NG-CDF Act, which now allows constituencies to allocate funds for maintaining digital hubs. This move underscores the government’s commitment to advancing digital infrastructure at the grassroots level.

Hon. Tandaza emphasized the need for expedited release of pending funds, stressing that the inspection revealed varying levels of progress across hubs. This assessment will inform the Committee’s efforts to ensure timely completion and maximum impact of these initiatives.

Looking ahead, the Committee is scheduled to visit ICT Hubs in the Coastal region from May 20th to 25th, 2024. This continued scrutiny underscores the government’s dedication to promoting digital inclusion and economic empowerment across all regions of the country.
