Nine students from St. Aloys Secondary School in Kisumu East Sub County were hospitalized following a severe storm that swept through the area yesterday, causing significant damage to the school.

The storm, which brought heavy downpour and strong winds, resulted in injuries to the students, with nine requiring admission to local hospitals. Several others suffered minor injuries and were treated at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chiga before being discharged.

Principal Judith Atieni reported that the storm caused extensive damage to the school’s infrastructure, destroying two classrooms and the staffroom. In light of the destruction, she has called on well-wishers, as well as county and national government officials, to provide assistance to facilitate the restoration of normal learning activities.

While the majority of the students are safe, the traumatic event has left them in shock. The school community is rallying together to support each other during this challenging time.

As recovery efforts begin, authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage and planning the necessary steps to ensure that students can return to a safe learning environment.
