Religious leaders from the North Rift region now want President William Ruto and the Opposition leader Raila Odinga to dialogue.

They say this will help to cool down the political pressure and demonstrations conducted by the opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“The government and the opposition leader should sit on a round table and talk and come to an agreement with the welfare of Kenyans in mind,” said Geoffrey Songok Chairman of Inter-faith Uasin Gishu.

“We do not want any more fatalities and it is not pleasing at all seeing the death toll increasing daily due to these protests,” added Geoffrey.

They stated that if the government and the opposition find a challenge to create an alliance then they are glad and willing to help them and guide them appropriately.

The Religious leaders further said that it’s disheartening that the express highway which we are still in debt has already been destroyed, according to Cabinet Secretary of Transport Kipchumba Murkomen the damages at the Expressway could be over Ksh.706.7 million.

Kenya National Fatwa Council National deputy chairman, Sheikh Abubakar Bini said that the by-partisan talks that did not go as planned should be reviewed because they had very important terms such as constituting the IEBC.
“We need public participation to be able to give our opinions openly and the opposition requires the same privilege,” said Bini.

Sheikh Bini also urged the government and the opposition to have an understanding.
“Let us not wait for the mediators from abroad to bring us together yet we have enough people who will be able to initiate a peace agreement. The change begins with us and the best way to understand each other is by speaking that is the only way.

Zulphikar Osman stated that the protests should come to an end because it is very disruptive when it comes to business.

“On Wednesday the businesses were disrupted and this is affecting our economy because, at the end of the day, the government needs the revenue.” he said.
