NTSA Cracks Down on Reckless Driving After Viral Video Incident
In response to public outcry over a viral video showing a public service vehicle (PSV) flouting traffic rules through reckless driving, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken decisive action.
On Thursday, August 14, NTSA announced it had directed the Sacco (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization) operating the offending vehicle to present both the driver and the vehicle for inspection at the NTSA Likoni inspection center in Mombasa.
The inspection revealed significant issues. The driver, subjected to a comprehensive retest covering the Highway Code, Road Signs, and Road Safety, performed poorly in all areas. Consequently, both his Driving and PSV licenses have been suspended.
Additionally, the matatu itself failed the compliance inspection, further highlighting the seriousness of the breach.
This move by NTSA underscores its commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and ensuring that public transport operators adhere to established codes of conduct.
