OBUCUUN CROWNED FKF TESO SOUTH SUB BRANCH CHAMPIONS
Obucuun FC were crowned the Football Kenya Federation Teso South Sub Branch champions after trouncing Lukolis 3-1 in a thriller-a-minute encounter played at Otimong Primary School grounds.
The finals that were graced by Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong was a climax of the two-zonal league that attracted a total of 21 teams. Obucuun won zone A league with Lukolis emerging Zone B champions.
Lukolis started the match on a high note with fine crisp passes. The move bore fruits in the 20th minute when their prolific scorer Manuel Osoro found the back of the net with a close range shot.
Undeterred by the early setback, Obucuun piled on pressure to level the score in the 44th minute through Bashir Wandao to make it 1-1 at the breather.
Two minutes into the second half, Obucuun were on top of things with Wandao outjumping Lukolis defenders to head home the second goal from a free kick 26 metres away to give him a brace.
Playing with hopes of salvaging a draw and that would have forced the match into extra time, Ronald Madoi buried their dream with a third goal five minutes to the end of the 90 minute duel.
Obucuun Captain, Odeke George William said hardwork and team spirit led to their emphatic victory, noting that their late rally paid off dividends after trailing 0-1 early in the first half.
Lukolis captain, Eddy Ekoto admitted that Obucuun were the better side especially in the second half when they dominated the match after we relaxed to score two crucial goals that sealed the game.
In the playoff match, Zone B runners up Machakusi took third position after beating zone A runners-up, Chakol 2-1 with Richard Omusugu and Norman Mujaro scoring for the winners while Chakol’s consolation goal came through Samuel Etyang.
H.E Ojaamong awarded the winners with lucrative prizes. Obucuun received a trophy and Ksh.50,000. Lukolis received a trophy and Ksh.25,000. Machakusi took home a trophy and Ksh.15,000 while Chakol which took fourth position were contented with a trophy and Ksh.10,000.
Seventeen teams including Ojaamong FC, Aterait, Amaase, Alomodoi, Angorom, Asiriam, Apegei, Asinge, Ong’ariama, Amongura, Kwangamor, Kaliwa, Katelenyang, Kotur, Osia, Kidera and Kifaru which took part in the league received Ksh.5,000 each.
The Governor urged Members of the County Assembly to set aside funds from Ward Development Projects to sponsor annual tournaments, noting that sports keeps the youths busy and helps nurture talents that abound in the county.
” I will hold a meeting with officials of the Football Kenya Federation Busia Branch to see how best to assist clubs participating in various leagues in the county and the region.
FKF Busia Branch chairman, Hillary Musundi urged parents to procure for their children balls and kits and give them time to train so as to nurture their talents.
” There is also need by team officials to embrace technology in a bid to solicit support from well-wishers. This will add value to the team,” he said, and thanked the H.E Ojaamong for the sponsorship that made the day a success.
