In a significant political development, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has proposed Junet Mohamed, the national assembly minority leader, as the successor to Professor Kithure Kindiki for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Interior. This proposition comes amid speculations that Kindiki may soon be appointed as the next DeputyPresident of Kenya, following the recent impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyaribari Member of Parliament Daniel Manduku confirmed the party’s intentions during a media briefing, stating, “Yes, we have fronted the name, but it’s up to the president to decide.” Manduku emphasized the party’s support for Junet Mohamed, acknowledging that the final decision rests with President William Ruto.

The vacancy arose after Kindiki’s resignation, which Manduku noted could have been a private affair, suggesting that it does not necessarily need to be publicly announced. “The resignation doesn’t have to be made public,” he remarked.

The ODM’s proposal signals a strategic move as the political landscape in Kenya continues to evolve. With Kindiki’s potential elevation to Deputy President, the cabinet position for interior will require strong leadership, making Mohamed a key figure in the party’s future plans.

The political ramifications of these changes will be closely monitored, especially as President Ruto weighs his options for filling the critical role in his administration.
