OPINION :Government Should Subsidise Fertilizer Prices
By Robert Mutasi
As North Rift Farmers are preparing for planting season, their accounts have gone dry due to the rising price costs of farm inputs such as fertilizers.
It would have been better for the government to give out subsidies to the famers of this country including Rift Valley region,so that to uplift farmers heavy weight on the farmers budget of farm inputs, that is,seeds, fertilizers among many more.
Currently the cost price of the fertilizer is between 5000 and 6000,which has been very hard to many of farmers to afford due to the their low income amidst this Covid-19 pandemic.
If the government will do this,it is not only going to benefit farmers but also the nation will benefit a lot as the quantity and quality of the produce will go high thus improving economy.
Reduction of hunger among Kenyans which often cause malnutrition mostly among children.
Agriculture being the backbone of this nation, government has to take it more serious by funding and subsiding farmers through the Ministry of Agriculture.
To subsidies farm inputs will be affordable to many farmers, enhancing the increase in the purchasing and farming activities.
