Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, has called for a shift away from the traditional practice of political leaders contributing to church fundraisers. Speaking to his constituents in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County, the UDA MP emphasized the need to focus on empowering youth to drive economic growth instead of relying on controversial fundraising practices in churches.

Sudi, a long-time advocate for youth development, expressed concern over the growing trend of politicians using church fundraisers as a platform for political gain, a practice that has drawn criticism in recent months. He stressed that churches should explore alternative, sustainable avenues for development that do not involve soliciting funds from political figures.

“In the coming year, I want to encourage all churches to consider other ways of raising funds for their development without involving political leaders. We need to empower our youth, create employment opportunities, and build a strong economy,” Sudi said. “The future of this country lies in the hands of the youth, and it’s time we redirect our focus towards equipping them with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed.”

The MP further highlighted his commitment to supporting youth empowerment initiatives in the region, urging local communities to invest in training programs, entrepreneurship, and other forms of economic engagement to ensure long-term prosperity. Sudi believes that by focusing on practical skills and economic development, Kenya can build a more self-sufficient and prosperous future.

As 2024 draws to a close, Sudi’s call for a rethinking of church fundraising practices comes amid ongoing debates over the role of politics in religious institutions. His new year resolution is centered on fostering a shift towards youth-centered economic strategies, emphasizing that churches play a crucial role in shaping the future of the next generation.
