Oscar Sudi Criticizes Archbishop Muheria for Alleged Double Standards and Tribalism

Kapsaret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, has accused Archbishop Anthony Muheria of engaging in double standards, criticizing the prelate for what he termed as a contradictory approach to leadership. Sudi, who is known for his strong political statements, pointed out that while Muheria preaches unity and the gospel, his actions appear to promote tribalism and divisiveness.

In a statement issued earlier today, Sudi expressed his concern over the Archbishop’s apparent endorsement of the previous government, despite its well-documented failures. “It is dumbfounding to see Archbishop Muheria preach about unity and the gospel of peace while, at the same time, subtly fanning the flames of tribalism,” Sudi remarked. “His failure to denounce the past regime when it was clear that it was failing the Kenyan people raises questions about his moral authority to critique the current administration.”

Sudi’s remarks come in the wake of several public speeches by Archbishop Muheria, in which he has criticized the sitting government for various issues. However, Sudi believes Muheria has not sufficiently distanced himself from past political allegiances. “The Archbishop’s ties to the previous administration, even as it failed Kenyans, cannot be ignored. For him to now position himself as a moral voice against the current regime is nothing short of doublespeak,” Sudi added.

The Kapsaret MP has been an outspoken critic of tribalism and political maneuvering in the church and Kenyan politics at large. He urged Archbishop Muheria to use his position of influence to promote national unity rather than engage in political rhetoric that deepens ethnic divisions. “If he is truly committed to the teachings of the gospel, he should steer clear of tribal politics and work to heal the nation, rather than exploiting divisions for political gain,” Sudi emphasized.

Sudi also challenged the clergy to hold themselves to a higher standard, particularly when it comes to matters of national governance. “As leaders of faith, they have a responsibility to show the way forward by being objective, honest, and above reproach, especially in a country that is still healing from the wounds of ethnic and political polarization.”

At the time of publishing, Archbishop Muheria had not publicly responded to the allegations made by MP Sudi. However, his supporters within the church and across the country continue to commend his advocacy for justice and the well-being of ordinary Kenyans.

The debate around the role of religious leaders in politics remains a contentious issue in Kenya, as clergy members are often seen as key moral voices in shaping public opinion. The ongoing clash between political figures and religious leaders is expected to intensify in the lead-up to the next general election.
