OTUOMA STARTS HIS TENURE WITH A BANG BY ASSEMBLING MACHINES TO IMPROVE BUSIA-KORINDA ROAD
Barely two days after taking oath of office, Busia Governor, H.E Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has started implementing his manifesto by embarking on beautification of Busia town which is the gateway to East and Central Africa.
Today, the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) started the dualization of the dilapidated Busia-Kisumu road.
It was a relief to residents as the tarmacking of the busy road started in earnest with the taxi park portion given top priority since the road to the One Stop Border Post had become impassable.
Boda boda operator, Erick Wekesa lauded the new Governor for coming to their rescue by embarking on major facelift of the Busia-Kisumu road which had become a nightmare owing to its pathetic state.
” As a boda boda rider we faced challenges traversing the busy road with frequent breakages of our motorcycles. This is a move in the right direction and we urge our new Governor to keep up the good work,” he said.
Waithera Njuguna who sells bags along the dilapidated road thanked Governor Otuoma for restoring their hope by embarking on major rehabilitation of the busy road that links the border county with Uganda and other Great Lakes Region.
” This is a noble idea that we shall embrace. However, we appeal to our Governor to consider allocating us an alternative place where we shall continue discharging our duties considering that Soko Posta market is small to accommodate all small scale traders,” she said.
During his inauguration speech on August 25, 2022 at Busia County Stadium, H.E Dr Otuoma said his administration will in colloboration with National Government
agencies and other development partners, endeavor to construct a dual carriage road from Korinda junction to the Border to ease traffic congestion and movement of goods in Busia town.
” Through the same partnership we shall construct a bypass from Mundika through Mayenje, Bulanda to the border to address the menace of trailers on our highway within Busia Town. We will complete and equip the trailer parks in Mundika and Malaba to decongest the two border towns within our county,” he said.
He added, ” Going forward, Busia being the hub of the region, we shall engage national government to establish a dry port at Nasewa and Malaba town to provide logistical services to goods that are on transit to East and Central Africa Africa.”
The Governor said beautification of Busia, Malaba and other towns is a priority
as the gateway to East and Central Africa. Through Busia and Malaba border points, the County has unrivalled access to opportunities brought about by the regional integration.
” In view of the above, my government will endeavor to improve the status of the two towns by improving security, expansion of roads, installation of mass and streetlights to support a 24-hour economy.
The initiative will also be replicated in other urban centres within the county,” he noted.
