Over 670,000 bags of subsidized fertilizers have been given to farmers in the North Rift region.
According to CS Agriculture Mithika Linturi, fertilizers are meant to boost agriculture in the regions to increase productivity.

“We have so far distributed 6,000 bags of fertilizers in the North Rift region and due to the high demand more fertilizers will be brought so that our farmers can have a humbel time during this planting season,” said the CS Agriculture during the flagging off the subsidized fertilizers in Eldoret.

He called upon farmers who are not registered to come in huge numbers and register for them to get the subsidized fertilizers.

“Get registered because for you to benefit from the subsidized fertilizers since it will only be given to those persons who have registered,”CS Linturi urged.

“For those farmers with issues with their registration.

I advise them to consult their sub-chiefs or to visit the Agricultural Departments,” he added.

He has noted that they are going to work with the County government for them to get correct information noting
that agriculture is the only solution to food insecurity that is being witnessed in the Country.
He condemned the demonstrations by the opposition leader Raila Odinga saying it can not be to the high cost of living and food insecurity.

“I want to call upon farmers from the region to refrain from protests and instead concentrate on productive activities since protests cannot solve food insecurity, “said the former Senator.

He noted that the subsidized fertilizers do not have Di-ammonium phosphate which contains both Nitrogen and Phosphorus which have acids.

“The subsidized fertilizers are friendly to the region’s soils, soils that contain a lot of acids due to prolonged use of DAP and other fertilizers.

The cost price of fertilizer of 50kg dropped from 7,000 to 3,500 Kenyan shillings this is after President William Ruto promised in Kenya’s Kwanza manifestos.

The government provided over 3.5 billion bags of subsidized fertilizers to several regions.
