Parliamentary Caucases Keen on Fostering Collaboration With Finland’s Development Policy Committee
Three parliamentary caucuses, namely the Kenya Disability Parliamentary Association (KEDIPA), the Kenya Women Parliamentarians Association (KEWOPA), and the Kenya Young Parliamentarian Association (KYPA), have welcomed the Development Policy Committee (DPC) from the Parliament of Finland. The DPC is a permanent parliamentary and societally representative advisory body on development policy.
The delegation, led by the Committee Chairperson Hon. Inka Hopsu is on a one-week visit to the country with the purpose being to familiarize themselves with the Kenyan parliament’s development challenges and to share thoughts on current collaborations in advancing the rights of women, youths, and persons living with disabilities.
During their visit, the delegation engaged with KEWOPA regarding its partnership with UN Women, with KEDIPA on its participation in the Kenya Inclusive Political Parties Programme, and with KYPA on the development of a National Action Plan. Additionally, they sought interactions related to the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda.
Finland’s ambassador to Kenya H.E. Mr. Pirkka Tapoila thanked the Kenyan parliament for receiving the delegation and for their openness in forming a partnership that would benefit the people of both nations.
“We want to have Kenya as a democratic partner and a country with which we truly share values.” Stated the ambassador.
He also highlighted the visit as an opportunity to foster collaboration and improvement between the two parliaments.
The dialogue with the three parliamentary bodies was guided by their respective Chairpersons, Hon. Timothy Wanyonyi (KEDIPA), Hon. Leah Sankaire (KEWOPA), and Hon. Gitonga Mukunji (KYPA).
Other members present for the dialogue included Hon. Janet Sitienei (Turbo), Hon. Jackson Kosgei (Nominated), Hon. Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Hon. Irene Mayaka (Nominated), Hon. Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri), Sen. George Mbugua (Nominated), Hon. Kakai Bisau (Kiminini), and Hon. Umulkher Mohamed (Nominated).
