President-Elect William Ruto Finally Speaks to President Uhuru Kenyatta
President-elect William Samoei Ruto on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with the outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta.
This comes after the supreme court confirmed William Ruto as the winner of the just concluded presidential elections.
Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes representing 50.49 percent of the final vote, while Raila received 6,942,930 votes this 48.85 percent, as announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya national tallying center.
He narrowly beat his rival, Raila Odinga, taking 50.5% of the vote, according to the official results.
The two had not talked for a while since President Kenyatta was supporting the opposition leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
On his official Facebook page, he wrote “I had a telephone conversation with my boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta. We discussed the just concluded General Election and the transition as envisaged by our democratic tradition and practice,”
Ruto who is the current deputy president and was vying on a UDA party ticket defeated the opposition leader Raila Odinga who was vying on an Azimio La Umoja party ticket.
He will be sworn in as Kenya’s president next Tuesday this is according to the Assumption of Office Committee.
