Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, today launched the National Police Service (NPS) Strategic Plan 2023-2027, marking a significant step towards enhancing the effectiveness and modernization of Kenya’s policing system. The event took place at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete.
In his address, President Ruto expressed full confidence in the leadership of the NPS and commended its officers for their unwavering dedication to ensuring national security. He emphasized the critical role the police play in maintaining law and order, and called on members of the public to offer their support and respect to the service.
“I have full confidence in the leadership of the National Police Service. The officers continue to demonstrate commitment to the safety and security of our citizens, and I urge Kenyans to support and respect the Police as they work to maintain peace in our communities,” said President Ruto.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the modernization of the NPS, a process which is aligned with the implementation of the Maraga Taskforce recommendations. These recommendations focus on improving the terms and conditions of service for police officers, enhancing digital infrastructure, increasing housing provision, and ensuring adequate vehicles for effective police operations.
“The modernization of the police service is a key priority. We are committed to ensuring that our officers are well-equipped, well-housed, and ready to serve the nation with professionalism and efficiency,” President Ruto added.
The launch of the NPS Strategic Plan 2023-2027 is part of broader efforts to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of law enforcement agencies. The plan outlines key strategic objectives, including improving community policing, increasing operational capacity, and fostering public trust in the police.
Also present at the launch were several government officials, including the Acting Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Principal Secretary for Internal Security Dr. Raymond Omollo, Inspector General of Police Mr. Douglas Kanja, and other dignitaries from both government and development partners.
The event marked a significant milestone in the continued efforts to reform and modernize the National Police Service to meet the evolving security challenges in Kenya.
