The government has prioritized provision of spacious, comfortable, safe, secure and affordable housing for Police officers in the government affordable housing plan. This was said by His Excellency President William Ruto today when he presided over the passing out parade of 2,881 Police officers at the National Police College Main Campus-Kiganjo.

The Head of State said that the Police-Prison reform taskforce that was established yesterday would look into a range of issues affecting police delivery including the terms and conditions of service of police officers and welfare issues, adding that addressing the housing shortage would go a long way in boosting the morale of police officers.

On matters of healthcare, the Head of State noted that the government would provide a comprehensive insurance scheme from this month, that would be available to Police officers and their families. In addition, President Ruto said that two fully equipped Police hospitals were already complete and would be soon ready to serve officers and their families, to ensure that police have access to priority dedicated and appropriate facilities for physical and mental wellness.

The Head of State also added that the government would be enhancing its investment in the DCI National Forensic Laboratory to ensure that all the necessary equipment and facilities required in concluding complex investigations and improving the success rate of prosecution were in place.
Meanwhile, in order to assist the government in the fight against crime, President Ruto, noted that the government would be enhancing community policing partnerships to improve police effectives and responsiveness to emerging security challenges.

The Head of State observed that increasing police numbers alone could not bear the desired results and there was need to compliment numbers with community based efforts and exploit potential synergy among organizations in the criminal justice system to deliver value for Kenyans.
“The government is committed to facilitate efficient coordination between various agencies in solving problems that call for joint approaches,” said President Ruto.
