Chief Justice Martha Koome presided over the launch of the book *Judicial Financial Independence in Africa: A Study of Eleven Sub-Saharan Countries* during the All Africa Judges and Jurists Summit. This event highlights the pressing theme of justice administration across our continent.

Edited by Dr. Conrad Bosire and supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Rule of Law in Africa Programme, the book presents insightful case studies from eleven nations, including Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Zambia. It addresses the crucial yet often overlooked issue of judicial financial independence and autonomy.

“Judicial independence is a topic of great importance that has drawn significant attention globally,” Chief Justice Koome remarked. “However, the financial and resource aspects have not received the same focus. It is time to elevate the conversation around financial independence to ensure that our Judiciaries can effectively fulfill their mandates.”

She emphasized the necessity for Judiciaries to be not only adequately resourced but also involved in determining and managing their resource needs. “This is a collective concern for all stakeholders,” she stated, urging collaboration to strengthen judicial systems across Africa.

The launch marks a pivotal step toward addressing these essential issues, reinforcing the need for an empowered and autonomous judiciary capable of upholding justice in the region.
