In a poignant open letter addressed to Church leaders across Kenya, Dr. Moses Mwangi, renowned medic and prominent businessman, has called upon the Church to reassess its role amidst ongoing Gen Z protests. The protests, which have highlighted deep-seated grievances among the youth regarding justice, transparency, and accountability, prompted Dr. Mwangi to emphasize the Church’s crucial role as a moral compass in society.

Dr. Mwangi, known for his advocacy in ethical leadership and societal justice, stressed the importance of the Church’s voice in promoting dialogue and reconciliation. “The recent protests underscore a critical need for the Church to provide solomonic wisdom,” he stated, “offering guidance rooted in God’s word to bridge divides and foster understanding.”

Addressing the escalating tensions, Dr. Mwangi urged Church leaders to advocate for peace and non-violent resolutions. “Now more than ever, the Church must be a beacon of hope,” he emphasized, “calling for calm and promoting peaceful dialogue over confrontation.”

Furthermore, the letter highlighted the Church’s responsibility as a sanctuary for whistleblowers, providing a safe haven for those who expose corruption and injustice. Dr. Mwangi called upon Church leaders to uphold their prophetic role, courageously speaking truth to power and holding corrupt leaders accountable.

Reflecting on the current state of affairs, Dr. Mwangi lamented the compromises that have tainted the Church’s moral standing. “It is with a heavy heart that I note the influence of monetary and non-monetary donations from corrupt leaders,” he wrote, urging Church leaders to resist such temptations and reclaim their prophetic voice.

The letter concluded with a poignant call to action, urging the Church to stand firm in its commitment to justice and righteousness. “May the Church in Kenya rise to the occasion,” Dr. Mwangi stated, “upholding the rights of the marginalized and serving as a beacon of hope for a brighter future.”

As the nation grapples with widespread discontent and calls for reform, Dr. Mwangi’s letter serves as a timely reminder of the pivotal role the Church plays in shaping societal discourse and advocating for positive change.
