Dr. Esther Muoria, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has commended Keroka Technical Training Institute (Keroka TTI) for its unwavering commitment to providing quality education. Speaking during the institution’s first-ever graduation ceremony, Dr. Muoria praised the leadership of Principal Mr. Maosa and the entire management team for embracing the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum, which has revolutionized the delivery of technical training in the country.

Addressing the audience, which included graduates, parents, and industry stakeholders, Dr. Muoria emphasized the importance of the CBET curriculum in equipping graduates with practical skills required by the industry. “Keroka TTI has demonstrated remarkable dedication by adopting the CBET curriculum, which focuses on producing competent, job-ready graduates. This curriculum facilitates the integration of technology and industry-driven programmes, ensuring our trainees are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the workforce,” she stated.

The graduation ceremony saw 1,768 students, the first cohort from Keroka TTI, receive their certificates and diplomas. Dr. Muoria hailed the graduates as trailblazers who will go on to impact various sectors across the country. She noted that the success of the graduates reflects the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to fostering innovation within the TVET sector.

Dr. Muoria further highlighted the State Department’s efforts to strengthen the TVET sector through strategic partnerships with industries. “To ensure that our trainees acquire the right skills and competencies, the State Department for TVET is keen on forging partnerships with industry leaders. These collaborations will provide our students with hands-on experience through Dual Training programmes, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application,” she remarked.

The Dual Training programme, which combines in-class learning with industry-based training, has gained widespread acclaim for its ability to offer students real-world experience while still in school. This model ensures that TVET graduates are better prepared to transition into the job market with both the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.

Dr. Muoria also emphasized the role of in-house institutional projects in fostering innovation and practical skills acquisition. “Keroka TTI, like many of our TVET institutions, is home to numerous institutional projects that serve as a platform for our trainees to innovate and apply their knowledge in solving real-life challenges. We believe these projects will be key in advancing the practical learning of our students,” she added.

The PS reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding access to technical education and enhancing the quality of training offered in TVET institutions. As part of this agenda, Dr. Muoria revealed plans to increase investment in infrastructure, technology, and capacity building across TVET institutions nationwide.

As Keroka TTI graduates step into the job market, they carry with them not only their academic achievements but also the hopes and aspirations of a nation determined to build a skilled and resilient workforce. Dr. Muoria concluded her address by congratulating the graduates and encouraging them to embrace lifelong learning as they pursue their careers.

The graduation ceremony marked a significant milestone for Keroka TTI, which has quickly positioned itself as a leader in the TVET sector, providing opportunities for young Kenyans to gain critical skills in a range of technical fields.
