Private Schools As the ministry of education take the competency-based curriculum CBC to junior secondary (class 6,7 and 8), the principal secretary for State Department for Early Learning and Basic Education. Dr. Julius Jwan now wants all the schools, especially those that were purely primary school and have decided to also offer junior secondary to get ready for the program by August so as to admit students in January as they will be assessed in August.

Speaking at Moi Girls Eldoret in his two-day tour to check on the readiness of school for the junior secondary learning, Jwan gave out the checklist for a school to be able to conduct the program.

“The school must be able t have classrooms with a capacity of holding 40 to 50 students, a laboratory for experiments, a spacious playfield, and the basic requirements for a school. He also urges the schools to bring an in different variety of subjects to impact students with more skills,” he said.

“We are encouraging private schools to get ready to admit junior secondary learners come next year by building classrooms and laboratories as the students will be having basic experiments. But we also allow private schools who wished to build a 30 capacitor room for their students. ” Dr.Julias added.

He reiterated that he has been impressed by some of the private schools in the progress they have taken in the embracement of the CBC junior education like potters house and Greenville that they will be in readiness for the next two months.

“The ministry is trying to ensure that there be a smooth transition of learners from primary to junior secondary as this will reduce on the cost of transferring from one school to the other due to some schools not offering the secondary program,” he said.

“What we have in mind practically as a Ministry, is to ensure all private primary schools who only offered primary education to go ahead and construct junior secondary so that learners don’t have to look for other schools but proceed to junior secondary in the same school,” Jwan said
