PWD Groups Gifted Tents and Chairs on International Day
Five groups of parents whose children live with Cerebral Palsy were today gifted with a hundred seater tents and chairs by the county government so they can utilise returns from hire services to support their children.
Youth, Sports and Gender Chief Officer Jane Wachwenge handed over the donations to the groups from Kwanza, Cherangany, Kiminini, Endebbes and Saboti Sub Counties at an event to mark International Cerebral Palsy Day held in Kitale.
The move is in line with the Governor, George Natembeya’s efforts to support People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) through extending to them opportunities including tenders to implement county projects.
Ms Wachwenge used the fourm to dispel myths and misconceptions about the condition, create a compassionate and supportive environment for PWDs, ignite conversations and create awareness to the general public.
She emphasised the need for collaborations and mutual support within the Cerebral Pulsy community adding that the coming together of caregivers, communities and organisations bring a positive force for change and inclusion.
Beneficiary groups included Trans Nzoia Parents of Cerebral Palsy Children CBO, Mumbler Caregivers Disability Children Self Help Group, Kipkeikei Mentally Challenged Women Self Help Group, St. Francis Parents of Challenged Children & Kiminini Visually Impaired SHG.
The event was also attended by a host stakeholders including representatives of the Catholic Church which has been supportive, National Council for People Living with Disabilities County Coordinator, NCPD County Chair Bernard Musioge and Community Based Organisations.
