Quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu has been sentenced to 29 years, six months in prison after being found guilty of running an illegal clinic and drugging patients.

Magistrate Wendy Muchemi said Mugo is a danger to society, hence should be kept away for a long time.

“He is a danger to the society instead of using the knowledge he says he acquired to improve society he went ahead by purporting to be a gynecologist and administering drugs to them,” the judge ruled.

She said Mugo opted to abuse his qualified skills from the University of Nairobi to administer drugs so as to engage in sex with patients.

Prestige Hospital, the clinic he was running alongside a pharmacy, was found to be illegal and not registered.
One witness in the case told the court that Wairimu gave drugs to one of his patients, who then became unconscious and when she woke up, she found herself with no pants.

During his mitigation on Monday, Mugo had asked the court to be lenient on him, since he still has the ambition to serve humanity.

“I assure this court that I have learnt a lesson and would urge the court to give a lenient sentence that will allow me join my family and to continue serving Kenyans as a law-abiding citizen,” he said.

“I have elderly parents who are over 80 years old and went without meals to make sure that their son has a secure future. Seeing their son on TV every day is traumatizing to them. They have not known peace because I’ve been in custody,” he added.

Mugo has been in custody for four years.
