Rain Halra Trailblazers V Kenya Prisons Men’s Volleyball League Match in Malaba
Heavy rains that pounded the border town of Malaba in Busia County halted the men’s Kenya Volleyball Federation League encounter, which entered the third leg at Malaba Stadium on Thursday.
The match had ended 2-2 when rains stopped the match from proceeding to a run-off to decide which team goes home with three crucial points.
Trailblazers’ unbeaten run in five matches nearly came to an end when Kenya Prisons led 25-21, 25-23 in the first two sets before Trailblazers rallied in the last two sets 27-11, 25-11 to level the score with hopes of wrapping up the game in a run-off, but rains jolted their hopes.Organizers said the match will be replayed on Friday morning.
In other men’s category, silver medallists at th All Africa Games in 2002 KDF won their fifth match after beating Western Prison 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-18). GSU also won their sixth match after beating Mt Kenya Bsy 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-14). KPA also maintained their winning streak, beating KFS 3-0 ( 26-24, 25-15, 25-21), GSU beat Kenya Army 3-0 ( 25-17,25-21,25-22), 3-1 APK beat Western Prisons 3-1(25-21,25-2317-25, 25-11).
Equity also registered their fourth victory after beating RVP 3-0 (25-20, 25-11,25-21). In their
second game, KDF beat Equity 3-1 ( 18-25), 26-24, 26-24,25-23).
In the women’s league six-times Confederation of African Volleyball Board (CAVB) champions Kenya Pipeline consolidated their lead on the log after beating Defending champions Kenya Prisons in the third leg of the league that entered day one at Malaba Stadium in Busia County today.
The two teams travelled for the third edition of the league with six points a piece from two matches, but Pipeline topped the log on goal difference.
Prisons met Kenya Pipeline with one victory in their favour compared to two by their bitter rivals spannin five years. They had hoped to reverse the trend, but which failed to bear fruits.
Prisons started the game with determination, and it proved fruitful when they won the first set 28-26.undeterred by the early set-back, KPC rallied to win the next three sets 25-15, 25-20, 25-11 to win three crucial points.
Despite fielding internationals left attacker Yvonne Wavinya, setter Veronica Kilaba, libero Delphine Misoki, and blocker Lorine Cheber, Prisons which is under Joseph Baraza as head coach failed to find a winning formular that might jolt their chances of retaining the title they won last season.
Pipeline coach Esther Chepkosgei thanked God for the performance, noting that it was not easy, but they put their best foot forward to register victory.
” We are ready for any assignment ahead. I can’t underrate any team considering that they are training. I will tackle every team at a time,” she said in a postmatch interview.
Prisons coach Josp Baraza said the 1-3 loss was not good for the team, noting that they will make amends in their next league encounter tomorrow against Postbank.
In the other women’s encounter, KCB beat winless Kenya Army 3-0(25-12, 25-14, 25-11).
