Rebecca Miano Sworn in as Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary
In a notable development for Kenya’s governance, Rebecca Miano has been sworn in as the new Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife.
The ceremony took place this morning at State House, with President William Ruto officiating the swearing-in.
Miano, who has previously held roles in the East Africa Community, ASALS and Regional Development, as well as Investment Trade and Industry, brings a wealth of experience to her new position.
Her extensive background in various government portfolios is expected to enhance her approach to promoting Kenya’s tourism sector.
In her statement following the swearing-in, Miano expressed her commitment to leveraging her previous experience to boost Kenya’s global tourism profile. “My experience at the Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry provides a strong foundation, as tourism is a service trade,” she noted. Miano highlighted that the tourism sector has underperformed for too long and is keen to align her strategies with President Ruto’s vision for a revitalized and prosperous tourism industry.
Miano, an advocate of the High Court and holder of a Master’s in Law from the University of Salford, emphasized her dedication to strategic planning and execution. “I will be a team player, servant leader, faithful trustee, effective steward of the people’s interests, and dependable custodian of their resources. So help me God. Ee Mungu nisaidie,” she stated.
Her appointment comes at a crucial time as Kenya seeks to strengthen its tourism sector as a key revenue generator. Miano’s expertise and leadership are anticipated to play a significant role in realizing this objective and aligning with the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
