Regional Development Committee Recieves Submissions From Fire Brigade Professionals Association on the Proposed Legislation
The Regional Development Committee chaired by Hon. Peter Lochakapong (Sigor) today met a group of fire brigade professionals to get more insights into a Bill seeking to have a training institute and a counsel to manage the practice.
The council will be tasked with several mandates among them coming up with the National Framework for Fire Safety and Rescue Services, advise the Government on policy matters relating to fire safety and standards of practice, in collaboration with other stakeholders devise policies on fire safety standards and practices, undertake research on, and advise the Government on the current firefighting technologies as well as plan, arrange, co-ordinate and oversee continuing professional training and development and facilitate skills acquisition for the fire brigades professionals.
While making their submissions, the representatives from the associations asked Members to adopt the proposal pointing out that establishment of a fully registered body will standardize the profession by ensuring there is a structured way of doing things and all practitioners are bound by ethics which will ensure effective service delivery and timely response to disasters.
