Residents Urged to diversify into different sectors- DG Philemona
Trans-Nzoia Deputy Governor Philomenah Bineah urges Trans Nzoia residents to diversify into different sectors in order to improve their lives.
She was speaking at her after meeting a team of businesspersons from the Khetia Group.
In her remarks, the deputy county chief said the administration of Governor Natembeya is committed to boosting business activities in the county.
However, the DG noted that many residents in the county are engaged in other business activities besides maize cultivation. According to her, residents can upgrade their living standards by diversifying their income-generating activities.
While praising Khetia’s commitment to creating jobs for the residents, the DG urged the company to devote more time to Trans Nzoia. This is owing to its long history with the county.
Khetias will partner with the county government on trade and investment, said Stanley Kirui, CEC for trade.
He challenged the company to invest in the Bodaboda sector. He pointed out that the move would help tackle the increased cost of owning a motorbike. In his opinion, many bodabodas have fallen victim to expensive lenders who exploit them.
Jay Khetia said plans are underway to set up a water and beverages plant in Trans Nzoia at a cost of over 300 million.
He said this would create more job opportunities and boost revenue earnings in the county. So far, the company has employed over 1400 Trans Nzoia residents.
