Rumors of Cartels Claiming Stalls Are False- Governor Natembeya
Transnzoia County governor George Natembeya says concerns about individuals already being allocated stalls at the new Masinde Muliro and Railway markets are unfounded.
Governor Natembeya says he will be allocating business space to genuine traders at the appropriate time, once the construction of both markets, currently 80% complete, is finalized.
“Rumors of cartels claiming stalls and renting them out are false, ” he said.
During a meeting with chamber of commerce officials at Kitale Town Hall, the governor emphasized that “we will give space to traders, not landlords.” I reiterated, “If you are a trader, you will deal directly with the government.”
” I acknowledged that 167 displaced traders who made way for the Masinde Muliro market construction will be prioritized for new stalls.I expressed gratitude to the chamber of commerce for their support of business activities in the region,” he noted.
He highlighted the challenges of revenue leakage hindering the county’s financial health.
“We have the potential to collect up to 800 million shillings annually, but currently only manage 300 million. This significant deficit of 500 million shillings creates budgetary difficulties for the county, ” he said
” To address this, my administration is working on acquiring more land for town expansion, increasing water sources, installing street lights, and maintaining roads to attract investors, ” he added.
