Safaricom Launches 'Hook Circle' Bootcamp Series to Empower Kenyan Youth

Safaricom, through its youth platform Safaricom Hook, has officially launched a nationwide series of bootcamps known as the ‘Safaricom Hook Circle.’ Aimed at empowering young people in technology, career development, and culture, the initiative kicked off at Chuka University, attracting a large number of participants from the university and surrounding areas.

Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC, emphasized the bootcamp’s mission: “Safaricom Hook Circle aims to connect youth all over Kenya to opportunities that will propel them to succeed in their area of interest. In collaboration with our partners, we provide essential learning in financial literacy, tech-forward skills, career readiness, and cultural expression.”

The bootcamp is structured around three main pillars:

– **Technology Hook**: Led by partners like Power Learn Project and Transsion, this segment focused on essential tech skills for the future.

– **Career Hook**: Featuring organizations such as Brighter Monday and ABSA, this component aimed to empower participants to pursue their career ambitions, offering CV upgrades and internship opportunities.

– **Culture Hook**: With partners including Elevate and Boomplay, this section helped participants explore ways to monetize their passions in art and fashion.

In addition to practical skills, the bootcamp included sessions on mental health and financial literacy, provided by Chiromo Hospital and Old Mutual.

Throughout the ‘Safaricom Hook Circle’ series, scholarships in technology will be awarded by Power Learn Project, while thousands of participants will receive comprehensive career training. Brighter Monday will facilitate internships and CV upgrades. Furthermore, Transsion will offer financing options for popular devices, and Twiva will create influencer sales opportunities for many youth.

This initiative represents a significant commitment by Safaricom to foster youth empowerment across Kenya, providing valuable resources and mentorship in diverse fields such as technology, fashion, and music.
