School Heads Urged to Plant Trees
School heads have been urged to participate in a tree-planting exercise to curb the adverse effect of climate change in the Country.
Speaking in Rarieda, Siaya county the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Ezekiel Machogu said planting of trees will be constitutionalized
where schools will be ranked according to how they have planted trees.
“One of the areas that are going to appear in the school principals’ performance contracting is tree nurseries, planting and growing of trees, there will be a ranking in schools that will perform best in tree planting”, added Machogu.
He said children should be taught how to plant and conserve trees and plant one tree at school and another at home.
Machogu added that through the available resources such as land and human capital, the Country will grow and plant enough trees.
President William Rutto is expected to launch an application dubbed #JazaMiti, which will allow every Kenyan institution to document their tree planting and monitor the growth of trees over time.
“The government has also launched a program to distribute 1,000 tonnes of seeds to 18 seed centers across the country, which will produce 15 billion seedlings by 2032”, said the president during the tree restoration launch.
