Security Committee Reviews Police Response to Kidnappings and Abductions
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja informed the Administration and Internal Security Committee that 57 abduction cases have been reported since youth-led protests began on June 18, 2024. Of these, 22 victims have been found alive, 29 are still missing, and six have been found deceased.
Kanja also reported the arrest of 1,552 suspects identified via CCTV footage related to the protests. Some were detained after additional evidence was gathered.
Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) John Onyango addressed committee members’ concerns about the mutilation of recovered bodies, referencing the ongoing investigation into a murder case in Eastleigh. The committee emphasized the need for a clear plan on police arrests and proposed a community policing initiative to build public trust.
